The brief was a compact two-room apartment in Karlsruhe for young professionals staying for a limited time – one that wouldn’t feel makeshift despite the limited space. The aim: an apartment you genuinely look forward to coming home to after work, not just a stopgap.

Made-to-measure upholstered furniture, sized to suit the floor plan, gives the living area a generous feel for seating without wasting space. Next to the understated sofa, an orange armchair adds a deliberate splash of colour that instantly makes the room feel personal.

A warm, consistent colour concept – ochre tones in the flooring, muted grey in the textiles – keeps the pared-back furnishings from feeling cold or impersonal. The desk area, too, was deliberately tied into the same material language instead of being left as a purely functional corner.

The apartment proves that thoughtful planning in a small space achieves more than any extra piece of furniture – and that a home for a limited stay doesn’t automatically have to feel temporary.
