The owners of this private home in Karlsruhe wanted rooms that each had a character of their own – but not a jumble with no inner connection. Striking exactly this balance between variety and coherence was the real task behind the project.

For each room, we developed its own guiding colour theme, derived from a shared base palette. In the dining room, a multi-arm chandelier composition of colourful mouth-blown glass sets a decorative highlight that deliberately contrasts with the calmer adjoining rooms.

Furniture, textiles and accessories were chosen along these themes instead of planning room by room in isolation: a turquoise box-spring bed in the bedroom, hand-painted tile patterns in the bathroom and a boldly patterned sofa in the living area each pick up an element of the base palette.

Each room feels distinct, yet recognisably part of one house – an effect that only reveals itself as you walk from one room to the next and consciously notice the recurring links of colour and material.
