A villa on the Côte d'Azur calls for a material language that holds its own in the southern light instead of fighting it. For this project in St. Tropez we developed a Mediterranean concept of light upholstered furniture and natural stone that deliberately shows off the generous proportions of the room.

Two generous sofas in a muted aqua blue form the heart of the open living area; their calm colouring lets works of art and decorative finds make their mark without competing with them. A marble tabletop in front of them provides a quiet centrepiece.

The shimmering texture of the natural stone catches the daylight and changes visibly over the course of the day – an effect we deliberately looked for when choosing the slab. In a separate, brighter living area of the villa, a cream sofa picks up the same pared-back material language.

The result is a space that doesn’t imitate its Mediterranean surroundings but continues them in material and colour – deliberately understated, so that the light, the view and the architecture itself stay in the foreground.

A supplementary mood board from the concept phase shows the choice of materials in detail: cream leather, a palette of warm taupe and mocha tones, and a dark green wool felt and a woven tweed as southern touches of colour alongside the villa’s otherwise restrained materials.
