Holding its own on 90 m² between much larger competitors was the brief for this stand at IMM 2018 in Cologne. The answer lay less in floor space than in colour, and in carrying a single core idea through consistently.
A clear blue palette on the walls and columns, combined with green and sand tones in the furniture, gives the stand a calm, instantly recognisable look. Spherical pendant lights in ribbed wood create a warm, almost homely lighting mood across the entire stand.
Rather than showing as much as possible, we deliberately pared it back to a few clearly placed seating islands – a mustard sofa here, a terracotta armchair there, tied together by the same blue palette in the background. Small details such as a pineapple on the side table give the otherwise minimal stand an unexpectedly personal touch.
Amid the abundance of a furniture fair, this restraint pays off: the stand stays in visitors’ minds even though it is smaller than the competition around it – and that was precisely the stated goal of the stand planning.
