At a furniture fair like IMM in Cologne, a few seconds often decide whether a stand gets noticed. In 2019 we developed a presence for a furniture maker that deliberately works against the sensory overload of the hall instead of competing with it.

Dark, almost black walls form the stage for individual, carefully lit pieces of seating – a warm terracotta armchair becomes the visual anchor of the entire stand. Floral wallpaper patterns in vivid pink set a surprising, feminine counterpoint at the back of the stand.

Ergonomic seating and textile flooring invite visitors to linger rather than just walk past; flower arrangements in strong reds and pinks were deliberately placed between the furniture islands as a recurring design element.

The stand therefore works twice over: as a sales space and as a short, genuine break from the bustle of the fair – an effect that showed clearly in the visitor numbers over the days of the fair.
